The Gilbert School was founded in 1895 by William L. Gilbert for the purpose of providing instruction “for the improvement of mankind by affording such assistance and means of educating the young as will help them to become good citizens.”
Today, that spirit of good citizenship and educating the whole child endures. The School moved to its present site in 1959 in Winsted, Connecticut and is today a comprehensive independent middle-senior high school for grades 7 – 12.
