Founded by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, Duquesne University is the only Spiritan institution of higher education in the United States. It shares the Spiritans’ deep commitment to educational excellence, moral and spiritual values, an ecumenical atmosphere open to diversity, and service to the Church, the community, the nation, and the world.
Students attend Duquesne from every state and scores of countries around the world. The curiosity and tenacity that drives the faculty makes classes and teaching exciting. Because faculty-student ratio is 14:1, students have plenty of direct access to learn together with eminent and award-winning scholar-teachers. Students also rave about the beautiful campus being right next to downtown Pittsburgh. While strolling Academic Walk to get to class, students can enjoy the self-contained park-like campus and a distinctive view of the city skyline. Every undergraduate student in every school of study at Duquesne takes a series of courses that emphasize intellectual and moral development through the study of the liberal arts. In addition to building skills for later success, University’s Bridges curriculum allows students to study a wide variety of subjects and graduate with the richest possible academic experience.
