School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson) provides public education to nearly 16,000 students, approximately 15 percent of whom are of Aboriginal Ancestry, living in Kamloops and many rural communities, including Chase, Barriere, Logan Lake, Pinantan Lake, Sun Peaks, Heffley Creek, Westwold, Savona and Clearwater. The majority of the district’s residents live in Kamloops. The school district covers more than 27,000 kilometres and busses about 4,000 students more than 9,000 kilometres every day. It has 32 elementary schools, one middle school, 10 secondary schools, one Kindergarten-to-Grade 12 school, one Kindergarten-Grade 9, two alternate education programs and one distance education school.
